Capital Eye Consultants is an optometric referral center specializing in secondary and tertiary eye care. The Center Director is Dr. James Mattern and the Staff Optometrist is Dr. James Powers. The optometric staff provides initial examinations for surgical patients as well as managing medical patients with glaucoma and other anterior segment disease. The Medical Director is John C. Baldinger, MD. He is the leading cataract surgeon in the metro D.C. area, and is also an experienced PRK and LASIK surgeon. Dr Kourosh Nazari is our second Cataract and Refractive Surgeoon. Dr. Alessa Crossan and Dr. Alexandre Gautier provide our Vitreo-retinal services. We also accept three to five interns per quarter from four colleges of optometry.

PATIENT POPULATION:
Patients are seen only by referral from local physicians (optometrists and MDs). A wide variety of ocular disease is seen on a daily basis. Patients demographics are from young adult to the elderly.

EYE CARE SERVICES:
Patients are diagnosed and treated at the center and then referred back to their optometrist for follow-up care.

The center has nine fully equipped exam lanes. Additional testing routinely performed at the Center includes visual fields, posterior and anterior segment photography, fluorescein angiography, ophthalmic echography, topography, pachymetry, Spectral Domain OCT and IOL Master biometry . No primary care is provided at the Center. There is extensive management of glaucoma, retinal disease, uveitis, pre and post-operative cataract, as well as full scope therapeutic care.

The center is equipped with both YAG laser and Diode retinal laser.
