Job Description

SCO grad seeking an associate to join his practice in the beautiful town of Sparta, NC. Sparta is a beautiful town nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains in the northwest part of the state. It is a growing community with a specific focus on art, music, and cultural renaissance. Downtown there are multiple shops, eateries, brewery, winery, etc. Further, there are endless opportunities for outdoor activities from the scenic New River (second oldest river in the world), hiking trails, the Blue Ridge parkway, golf courses, country clubs, and the list goes on.

We are technically a two office practice, with the second location in Elkin, NC. However, we currently operate individually with one doc at each location. Both offices are quickly growing, and the current dream is to find a third OD to join the Sparta location, and form a triad so that we have a recurring/overlapping network to cover each other when one of the practitioners is out of the office (like a 2 week trip to Europe).

We are seeking an associate with the welcome option of future partnership. Our practice has a long 45 year reputation for delivering exceptional, high quality, full scope, medical eye care to our town and surrounding area. We have multiple patients that drive 3+ hours to get their eye care at our practice, an ultimate testimony. We have a mantra that our patients are our family, and taking care of them as such is our charge and mission.
We see patients of all ages, and provide specialty services including Dry Eye (OptiLight IPL/LLLT), Specialty Contact Lens, myopia management, injections/membranes/plugs/etc, and the full scope of ocular disease.
Since we are the only full time eye care practice in the area, we routinely care for ARMD, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, etc. Further, being a small town, we have a great collaborative relationship with local MD offices, hospital, and urgent care. It is not uncommon for us to get 6+ emergency/urgency referrals in a single day, and also utilize these relationships for quick systemic issues that need comanaging (ex. Amaurosis Fugax, GCA, CRAO/VO, etc.) The overall sense of community is profound, and ability to have a genuine impact on patients lives is something we value in its highest regard. It provides a sense of wealth that money simply cannot replicate.

The ideal candidate would possess the following traits:
1) unrelenting focus on Quality care. There is a beautiful and ugly way of doing anything, and chucking through 30 patients to get to go home is not our style.
2) strong clinical skills (necessary for #1 Quality care)
3) ability to show compassion, intellect, and curiosity. All three traits are also necessary building blocks to performing #1 well.
4) desire to work/live/integrate into a small growing mountain town.
5) excitement to work in State-of-the-art facility that will continue to grow and adapt to new ideas, technology, and scope expansion.

If you can check off these items with an A+ mentality, then you must be an All-Star. Couple that skill/mindset with this practice and patient trust/autonomy, and you can achieve the ultimate work/life balance. Super high pay (you name the $, truly), reasonable daily patient load, and ample time out of the office with your family.

“The ability to do what you want, when you want, for as long as you want has an infinite ROI” – Morgan Housel
